Wall etiquette

The chalk rules.

01

Brush your ticks

Chalk marks tell the next person the whole route. Brush them when you leave.

02

Look up before you walk

The mat is a landing zone. Nobody walks under a climber.

03

Downclimb when you can

Your knees will thank you at forty. So will the mats.

04

Beta is earned, offered, never sprayed

Ask before you tell someone the sequence.

05

Chalk stays in the bag

Loose chalk on the mats is a fine of one round of applause.

06

Celebrate every top

Strangers included. Especially strangers.

The gym

A warehouse with chalk in the air.

CRUX opened in a cold-storage warehouse with two walls, one crash pad and a space heater. The first winter, members climbed in gloves.

The walls have been rebuilt four times since. The space heater is still there, now decorative. The gloves are not missed.

Questions
Is CRUX a real gym?

No. CRUX is a fictional bouldering gym built as a website template. The wall above is an interactive illustration with sample routes, and nothing is sold or booked here.

Do I need experience to climb here?

In the fiction: none - the Foundations class exists for exactly that. In reality: this is a template, so the only wall is the illustration above.

What do the grades mean?

V-numbers grade boulder problems from V0 upward. The sample wall runs V1 to V5 - from a warm-up to a genuine argument.

Can kids climb?

The sample gym runs a youth squad at 17:00 and allows supervised climbing any session.
